You only need about 2-4 really good games to make your party come alive. Choose the ones that best suit your party theme and size.
I love these free party games, they are traditional and lots of fun.
Banana Bluff.
Do you need games for kids that can be played indoors, ideally include one like this. It's quieter, so it's good for calming things down before food is served or before they go home. Ideally a minimum number of 6 children is best.
You will need: A banana, music.
Object of the game: The child in the middle of the circle has to guess who has the banana.
Instructions:
Sit the children down in a tight circle with their hands behind their backs.
Choose one child to sit in the middle of the circle.
Turn on the music.
The banana is secretly passed behind their backs, from child to child within the circle.
At any stage one of the children can choose NOT to pass the banana on to the next child, however they must pretend that they have done so.
The other children must continue the bluff and pretend to be passing the banana along.
When the music stops, the child in the middle of the circle must guess who has the banana.
If the child in the middle of the circle guesses correctly they swap with the child who had the banana.
The child in the middle has 3 attempts and if unsuccessful at guessing, they change places with the child who has the banana.
Whether you’re hanging out in the back yard, or heading to the park or beach, this game guarantees you’re going have a blast
There are so many things to love about Boochie: from the active-play element, to the unique 12-sided rolling target, to the amazing variety of throwing challenges packed inside.
No two games will ever be the same. Take note that all of the wrist trackers have completely different sets of challenges so be sure to try them all. Get out and play at your next party.
What's in the Bag?
Birthday party games for kids, a great guessing game and one of the easiest free party games you can play.
You will need: A selection of household items. For example, (A hairbrush, A paperclip, A pencil sharpener, a carrot, A cloths peg, A stamp, four, sugar, rice, corn flakes, washing up liquid). Brown paper bags and plastic zipper bags (for liquid and powdered things). A blindfold (optional), paper towels to wipe hands clean.
Object of the game: The children must take it in turns to guess what's in the bag.
Instructions:
Collect the household items that you want to use and place them into brown paper bags. Place the liquid and powdered items into a plastic zip lock bag first and then into the paper bag.
You can choose to blindfold the children.
The children take it in turns to put their hand into the bag and guess what's in it.
You can hand out small prizes for the children who get it right.
If a child can't guess, let another child have a go.
Make sure that you have many more items than children, so that they can have 3-4 goes each.

A game well suited to the outdoors whether it's in the back garden, the park or the beach.
Wheelbarrow Race.
This is one of the most fun games that I remember playing as a kid, even the adults can play! Make sure you team up the right pair of kids. Or even mix kids with adults.
Obstacle Course.
More great action outdoor Birthday Party Games for Children 6-8 Years. This can be done as a team event by creating 2 identical obstacle courses. If you don't have enough people or obstacles, try timing each team or individual as they take it in turns.

"Thank you Katherine, love your site. I used your suggestions for my
4 year olds birthday party
last week. 15 Kindergarden kids! My sister does face painting so we did that. I had a pass the parcel using nursery rhyme music I had a candy between each wrapping of paper which worked well. Finally I did some
balloon games.
They loved it. I especially liked your idea of having a story time at the end of the party, it worked well, my sister read the stories and I organized the parents as they arrived to pick up their kids. My little girl loved her special day and I think it was the games that made it work so well. Planning my sons 7th Birthday for next month now"
Sandra, Atlanta, USA
Just a quick note to let you know that I followed your instructions for running party games at my sons birthday party and it went really well. I did 3 games and the most popular was the
obstacle course.
I had 10 boys ages 6-10 and once they had played with the course I had set out they then started to create their own ideas for obstacles and rearranged the course making it harder and harder. This 1 game kept them entertained for over an hour.
