Laser Tag
"That Was Awesome, We Had So Much Fun!"

Laser Tag is great for all ages and all occasions whether you're celebrating a special birthday or having a bucks night. Maybe you just want to have a great fun fighting game with your friends.

My son, Daniel turned 7 last year and he begged for a laser party, which we gave him. My husband Andrew had a weekend away with his mates and spent the afternoon at a Skirmish park.

Me, yes I've done it too. At a corporate team building, we did the old fashioned paint ball.

Whatever you call it, fighting games are all the rage and can suit all ages.

For my sons 7th birthday party we hired a Laser Tag in a Box. The box was delivered a couple of days before the party. Inside was everything we needed including the laser tag guns, war paint and the instructions on how to run the games. We originally planned to run the event outside in the park across the road, but it rained, and rained and rained!

Plan B, yes always have a plan B if you're planning an outdoor party. Our Plan B was to use the local Scout Hall. It's handy that Daniel is a Scout, but anyone can hire Scout Dens, Girl Guide Huts and some local churches also will hire out their halls. We had to use the Scout hall.

We wanted to create a war zone space so we filled small sacks with paper. They were the same sacks that we had used for the sack races at Daniels 5th Birthday Party. Andrew contacted his mate who had been in the army and he provided some camouflage netting and an army costume for himself.

Other ideas would be to paint cardboard boxes and stack them to make towers. Basically you want to create things to hide behind.

Andrew ran the fighting game, which was as simple as dividing the 22 kids into 2 teams. They had a flag each and the goal of the game was to capture the flag. The 19 boys and 3 girls ran around shooting each other with their guns for 2 solid hours. I am pleased to say that no one or no animals were hurt during the running of this event!

Laser Tag Kids Party

Several parents stayed to watch and I provided chips, crackers and dips and lollies, as well as cordial to keep the troops happy. Lunch was served at 12.00. Helpful parents assisted in the cooking of hamburgers with lettuce and cheese on top. The troops were hungry after playing laser tag for 2 hours….and so were the parents! The rain had stopped so we were able to get outside and the kids continued to run around on the grass.

The all important birthday cake was a laser tag gun of course which I proudly made myself. I used biscuits to decorate it. It was a chocolate cake, because that is my sons favorite.

You don't have to run the game yourself, as you can pay to have someone run the game for you, so depending on your budget you can decide whats best for you. There are indoor venues that also run laser tag, so check them out.

Skirmish fighting games are found in the suburbs where there is plenty of bush. Paint Ball is the same sort of thing. Beware though, I found that the paint ball did cause a few bruises. We all had to wear masks which can be a little claustrophobic, so make sure that your guests are happy with what they will be expected to do and wear. And of course it is very important that the rules are followed, safety first!

"Thank you Katherine, love your site. I used your suggestions for my 4 year olds birthday party last week. 15 Kindergarden kids! My sister does face painting so we did that. I had a pass the parcel using nursery rhyme music I had a candy between each wrapping of paper which worked well. Finally I did some balloon games. They loved it. I especially liked your idea of having a story time at the end of the party, it worked well, my sister read the stories and I organized the parents as they arrived to pick up their kids. My little girl loved her special day and I think it was the games that made it work so well. Planning my sons 7th Birthday for next month now"

Just a quick note to let you know that I followed your instructions for running party games at my sons birthday party and it went really well. I did 3 games and the most popular was the obstacle course. I had 10 boys ages 6-10 and once they had played with the course I had set out they then started to create their own ideas for obstacles and rearranged the course making it harder and harder. This 1 game kept them entertained for over an hour.
